Rove, My First Love

March 11, 2017

Last weekend, I was invited to do my first ever staycation at the Rove City Center.

So how should start?

You know that feeling where you first see something wonderful, you become obsessed with it and you just want to get to know it more and spend more time with it? The second I stepped in at the Rove City Center, it felt like falling in love for the first time.

To be fair, I have been to many hotels my whole life, but not everyone knows that there are different types of hotel categories. There are resort hotels, business hotels, casino hotels, etc. all targeting different types of people with different nature of their travels.

I would know because I am also a hotelier. And Rove, being one of the city hotels I've stayed in is probably the most original and one of the hotels that definitely know who their target guests are: The Millennials.

First thing that I've noticed is that there are no Valet parking and there are no bellman. I actually prefer having to park myself as to avoid waiting for your car to arrive, especially when you're in a hurry.

But a hotel without a bellman to help you with your luggage? That was kinda strange at first, but then while we were unloading our bags, we discovered that there are these little airport-like carts that you can use and take straight to your room. How cool is that? So basically the hotel is all self-service which makes sense for US young people who are always on the-go. 😜

Check-in was super fast and easy, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I like the design of the desks with those cool airport-like digital signages.

One thing that you should note about Rove hotels is that is a Social Hub. It is designed for you to spend less time in your room and more time exploring and meeting your friends and colleagues in the lobby drinking coffee, or work on your creative projects in a very creative, artsy, insta-ready environment.

We actually hanged-out more in the lobby than we did in the room!

For my check-in look, I wore a light coloured oxford shirt (Zara), I'm currently obsessed with them! I like that you don't have to worry about the collars ending up being curved after a few wash because there are small buttons to hold them. They're very comfortable and it fits well with chinos and nice pair of leathers.

Now lets go to the room. Its actually very spacious with all the basic and essential amenities such as a comfortable king sized bed, 48-inch television, a fridge, desk, complimentary tea and coffee facilities, free WiFi that has no number of device limits, and also a spacious bathroom with rainfall shower and sliding doors that I really appreciate cause some hotels tend to have their toilet floors wet and here it doesn't. The couch that I'm sitting on btw can also be convert into another bed that you can easily set up in case you have your other mates staying with you.

I also really like the design of the room with those cool button pin artworks hanging in the wall and those signature quotes on top of of the bed's headboard.

In the afternoon I wore a classic 70's crew neck shirt (Pull & Bear), jeans and sneaks. Its sort of a stay in the house and chill look but also ready to go out if theres a need to. 😁

Now lets talk about the facilites. Aside from the very cool lobby, you can also head into the mezzanine floor where all the fun action happens. There's a gaming room complete with a ping pong table, mini golf and a classic arcade with free games!

There are also meeting rooms that you can use for fun company meetings and team building activities or you can also use as a quiet study/reading room for guests who would like to escape the the lobby.

One more very original thing about the Rove is that it has its own laundromat equipped with coin-operated washing machines.

The hotel  will of course not be complete without its own open-air pool. There are a lot of sun beds to lay all day in and tables to hang out.

Summer is just right around the corner so I made sure that I have a swimming wardrobe ready! I wore a cool striped beach shirt (Beshka) that I would say works perfectly well paired with my favorite beach shorts. I also brought in a stray hat to complete the look.

If you have other things that you think would not fit in your room, Rove also has lockers free to use for all guests.

Rove is definitely one of those hotels you'd feel that someone has actually sat down and really thought of what the guests would need, the location and the activities the guests will do around the area. Other things you should note about The Rove City Center are as follows:

  • When you reach the lobby lift landing, there is an easy passageway straight to a Zoom convenience store to grab a quick snack, drinks and other necessities.
  • They have a cool restaurant called The Daily with nice food and ambiance (separate blog post coming this week!)
  • The hotel is 10 mins away for the Dubai International Airport while the City Centre Deira Mall and Metro is just a short walking distance away.
  • The surrounding area is actually pretty quiet! We stayed there during the weekend and had a pleasant time discovering that the place was not crowded and there not a lot of city/airport noise.

For my check-out look, I'm ready to go back to business feeling refreshed after a nice weekend stay. I wore a plain dark oxford shirt (Zara) pairing it checkered trousers (Zara).

Overall, the Rove City Centre will now always be my first love, it was a truly unforgettable experience and I'm so happy to be able to do my first staycation as a blogger there.
